Review Scores & Bioshock Infinite

10star

The last two major triple A releases, Tomb Raider and Bioshock Infinite, have both received heaped praise from pretty much every media source on the planet, and yet there seem to be an isolated few of us, stranded and forgotten, who seem to disagree.  As with any release you get the people who love the game, hate the game and simply do not care.  Games that score a 10 would indicate to me that all three of these categories are catered for, and that universally whoever you spoke to would agree the same.

With that in mind, I’d like to just state that, I lovED Tomb Raider up until the most recent entry, and that now after three Bioshock games, none of which I have enjoyed enough to finish, all still fail to capture my imagination and I find them to be dare I say it? Boring.

Now I can’t be the only one in the Bioshock boat, yet, with all the magical 10/10 reviews floating around I thought maybe this would be the one that finally turned the tide.  Not a chance.

Persona 4: The Golden

It has arrived.

For everything you need to know about this game just follow my Twitter or see “My Vita View” to the right as I will be screenshot-ing my way through this gem of an RPG.

If you haven’t played or heard of, and, you are interested in quality RPG gaming on the PS2 or more recently the PS Vita, then pick up Persona 4 Golden when it drops in Europe next year or alternatively import it as I have.

This game will be carrying me through until Ni No Kuni in January.

I have however literally just finished Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker as part of the HD Collection released earlier this year.  I was skeptical because of the handheld controls but rest assured it transfers well on to the big screen and controller.

Peace Walker is a full fledged Metal Gear Solid game in its own right and introduces characters Paz and Chico, mentioned and seen in the Metal Gear solid Ground Zeroes demo also shown off earlier this year.  If you want to know a bit about their back story, work your way through Peace Walker. It’s going to take you roughly 12 hours give or take side missions etc etc.

REVIEW: Assassins Creed III

Assassins Creed III marks the closure of the originally announced and then extended to five main game trilogy and a further three handheld spin-offs by taking players between the American Civil War and Present day in an effort to stop the sun melting the planet on the 21st December.

A few of you may remember my scathing review of Assassin’s Creed Revelations from last year so to be fair, AC3, had an absolute mountain to climb to get me back on board with this franchise but quite frankly I feel this entry never really left base camp.

REVIEW: Call of Duty: Black Ops II

The yearly addition to the Call of Duty franchise is always a landmark in the gaming calendar as retailers up and down the country throw open their doors at midnight and play host to the swarms of people looking to get their hands on a copy as soon as the clock strikes twelve.

The only time you could catch me at a midnight launch would have been when I worked for GAME/Gamestation as I would have been one of the people forgoing sleep to sell you a copy, you die hard fans you.

My history with Call of Duty has been limited to everything after Modern Warfare but not including World at War, pretty much when the series took a jump in popularity really.  The only time I’ve felt compelled to actually spend money on the title was for the launch of Modern Warfare 2 but swiftly traded it all back in to recoup my money, opting to play future titles in marathon sessions of six hours on a Sunday in the stock room on an old dusty 15″ CRT.

Times have changed now though.  Borrowing a copy, pumping it through the DPX21 and sitting as close as possible to my 32″ Samsung without burning a hole in my retina, I marathon-ed Black Ops II last night to bring you this review today.

NEWS: Persona 4 Arena

The news broke today that Persona 4 Arena will be delayed until roughly sometime in the future.  To be clear, it’s not soon.  The vague forecast is now early 2013 which has angered Persona and Zen United fans the world, just Europe.

Criticism of the title first peaked when Atlus revealed that this would be one of the only games to be region locked on the Playstation 3.  Forcing people to buy the game in their native regions citing that exchange rates between the Japanese Yen and the American Dollar would significantly impact the game’s success should it be imported.  Even though this title would be region locked, Atlus made it clear that this was something they would not be looking to do on a regular basis.

In theory the European version was expected to drop between September and November but now it has been confirmed that the game has slipped until 2013, date pending.

Zen United who are looking to publish Persona 4 Arena in Europe  have offered up a FAQ highlighting some of the steps publishers have to go through before they can release a game in a given territory to try and keep fan backlash to minimum although after today’s news, it seems that damage limitation might be a better option from here on out.

The main argument is that by the time the European version is rolled out, online play will be almost non existent as the rest of the world will have moved on to something new and no one will care anymore.

I myself can understand the frustration but remain on the fence about it all.  I guess that’s £30 still in my bank account until next year right?

If you can’t wait for your Persona fix go buy yourself a Vita and pick up Persona 4 Golden as that will be shipping from the end of the month!
